2006 Spring Conference
Summary... On May 4 and 5, 2006, sixty three office professionals from across New York State gathered at the Best Western Carriage House Inn, Watertown, New York, for NYSAEOP’s Spring Regional Conference. The conference began with dinner on Thursday evening, followed by entertainment provided by the Indian River Jazz Rock Ensemble. This group of 32 talented students in grades 9 through 12, under the direction of Music Coordinator Toni Zygadlo, sang and danced their way into the hearts of everyone present. Their performance was truly enjoyed by all. On Friday, May 5, workshops were offered by a variety of individuals. Under the direction of general session speaker Jim Bucko, owner of Hawks Way Training Center and Retreat, we traveled the medicine wheel to learn who we are and how we interact with others in our daily lives. The second half of his presentation provided information on how to build strong and balanced relationships and how to resolve conflict in our daily lives. Afternoon workshop speakers included Rosemary Deusser-Jensen who spoke on communication skills in the workplace, Dan McDougal on different communication styles, Nancy Swenson on the stress of managing multiple roles and how it affects us physically, and Susanna Slodkowski on alternative methods of healing. In addition our own Connie VanHosen offered a Professional Standards Workshop for those interested in securing our PSP certification. At the end of the day many of us enjoyed a tour of the Jefferson County Historical Society and garden. Most notable was a display of wedding gowns for public view. This display, along with a tour of the mansion, garden and carriage house, was thoroughly enjoyed. A wine and cheese reception was provided. Our thanks go to Judy George, who did a marvelous job coordinating and guiding us on our tour of the Historical Society. I want to thank my Conference Committee, comprised of Cindy Reynolds, Sheryl Haller, Rhonda Munroe and Peggy Brand for their hard work. It wouldn’t have happened without them. I also wish to thank the NYSAEOP Executive Committee for their support. The conference wouldn’t have happed without it. Everyone, whether or not you are a NYSAEOP member, should consider attending a Spring Regional or Fall Conference. The benefit from meeting others from all areas of New York State and being able to share experiences and ideas cannot be measured. |
