NYSAEOP sponsors an annual Administrator of the Year Award, offering recognition of educational administrators, nominated by a NYSAEOP member, for outstanding leadership, service, and support of staff.

2007 - Peter H. Michaelsen

Mr. Michaelsen was nominated by the Erie County Association of Educational Office Professionals, and NYSAEOP members Carol Garrison, Barbara Moran and Robin Olkowski. Mr. Michaelsen has been in school administration for close to fifteen years and has held his current position for the past seven. His is known for safeguarding a fiscally sound school system which allows students every learning advantage possible!

Mr. Michaelsen is supportive of the staff by encouraging them to take training and self-improvement workshops, willing to try new ideas and is always there to listen to concerns and problems. He started and holds Labor Management meetings so staff concerns can be handled before they become a union issue. He involves as many parents/community members as he can on committees and makes himself available to them via the telephone and in person. He set up a district radio station and uses that to inform the community of district events, emergencies and other news. Described as a man who takes pride in his work and having a strong desire to make a difference, Mr. Michaelsen continues his professional growth through membership in several organizations and attendance at workshops and conferences as his schedules allows.
